The Alchemical Exalted are the Chosen of the Machine God, biomechanical demigods forged from divine metal and heroic souls. They do not rule the Eight Nations, but serve as Champions of the people, a sacred duty greater than any ambition. The eldest of Alchemicals transcend their human forms to become metropoli, living cities that offer the Eight Nations a stronghold against Autochthonia’s perils.

The Realm of Brass and Shadows is unforgiving, and the Eight Nations find themselves faced with many challenges: cataclysmic upheavals of Autochthon’s world-machinery, incursions of gruesome techno-organic gremlins, and the ever-present threat to their livelihoods. All the while, the slumbering Autochthon grows ever sicker, his corrupting Blight metastasizing throughout his world-body. Despair not. There is work to be done.

Alchemicals: Forged by the Machine God is an expansion for the Exalted Third Edition tabletop roleplaying game. It’s set in a mythic world where spirits walk openly among humanity, warring demigods topple kingdoms, and the restless dead roam on moonless nights. Heroes granted divine power contend against one another for the future of Creation. These are the Exalted!

October '24 Update - Relics Preview
30 days ago – Tue, Oct 22, 2024 at 06:39:19 AM

Hello Titans,

October is a good time for a preview from one of our Stretch Goal supplements! Gifts of the Titans is one of our Titans Rising stretch goals, so it’s time to show you some more Titanic Birthrights from this upcoming sourcebook, specifically the Relics detailed in this chapter. Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Relics

A Relic, no matter who created it or the original intention of its purpose, is only an implement. Whether a blade cuts bread, stone, or flesh is not its choice, but that of its wielder. This is the first and most important lesson the recipient of a Titanic Relic receives.

More information on Relics can be found in Scion: Hero, p. 209, Scion: Demigod, p. 134, and Scion: God.

Aeshma’s Fury (•••••)

Mythic

This heavy, ten-foot-long mace wasn’t the only weapon the Titan Aeshma used when walking the earth, but it was reputedly his favorite. In his hands, this several-ton weapon swung through the air like a tree branch, shattering the heads of warriors and striking fatal blows into the foundations of fortresses.

The mace is always clean, even when it’s used to smash people. It’s said that should the Wounding Spear ever get a physical body again, all the blood that should have spilled from every attack Aeshma ever made will start pouring out of the mace.

  • Purviews: Epic Stamina, Epic Strength
  • Motif: My rage obliterates everything you create.
  • Enhancement: 3 towards all Close Combat rolls made with no regard to collateral damage or the safety of the opponent.
  • Tags: Aggravated, Bashing, Brutal, Melee, Piercing, Pushing, Reach

Knack (Spend 1 Legend): When you use Aeshma’s Fury to smash apart inanimate objects like vehicles or buildings, the object is destroyed completely and utterly, no matter how large the object is or its supernatural capability. The remains, if there are any, are impossible to repair. The land upon which a building destroyed by the mace once stood cannot be built upon for the rest of the season. The Storyguide may call for a Clash of Wills when attempting to destroy an object important to a Scion, God, or Titan, such as another Relic.

B. Aeternitas (•••)

Mythic

One of the Smallest Adversary’s favorite creations, B. aeternitas is resistant to all but the strongest antibiotics. It causes mild, common-cold like symptoms that recede and resurface every few months. While he’s slightly disappointed that it’s not a devastating illness, the influence it gives his Scions over others is a nice consolation prize.

You either have a petri dish with an eternally growing culture of the bacteria, or you’re an asymptomatic carrier. Either way, it only infects others when you will it to do so.

  • Purview: Death, Health
  • Motif: No matter where you go, there I am.
  • Enhancement: 2 towards social interactions with anyone infected with B. aeternitas.

Knack: You may infect a number of people equal to your Legend with B. aeternitas per session. The bacteria are spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infectee (a handshake will do), droplets in breath (any face-to-face conversation with someone not wearing a facial covering lasting for fifteen seconds or more will do), and contact with an infectee’s blood. The infection remains until a character is treated for it with antibiotics or by supernatural means. Convincing mundane medics to treat an apparent mild cold with antibiotics might be a difficult endeavor.

Knack (Imbue 1 Legend): When you focus on a person you’ve infected with B. aeternitas, make a Knack Skill roll. You may ask a number of questions equal to the success you rolled about the character on the following topics:

  • Their current physical condition.
  • Their current emotional state.
  • Their natural physical capabilities.
  • The people the person interacted with over the past twenty-four hours. If you have not reached your limit of infections this session, you may declare some or all of these people as infected, up to your normal limit.

Balor’s Tathlum (•••)

Legendary

Lugh defeated Balor with a special stone, a tathlum, made from the blood of predators mixed with sands from two different seas. Using fragments pulled from his eye and with some of his own blood, Balor created his own. Until Balor gets his hands on the Long Handed, he field tests his projectiles by leaving them with Scions capable of using them.

The Scion begins with a supply of six Tathlum.

  • Enhancement: 3 towards Firearms rolls made with a weapon loaded with the Relic.
  • Tags: Piercing, Messy, Lethal, Brutal

Knack: When you load your ranged weapon with Balor’s Tathlum, the weapon accepts it as if it were ordinary ammunition. It takes on a suitable form, shifting into an arrow for a bow, a stone for a slingshot, a magazine loaded with one bullet for magazine-using weapons, and a single bullet for repeatable rifles. The weapon takes on the Relic’s tags for the next attack. Hit or miss, the weapon loses these tags after the roll until you reload it with another Tathlum. All spent Tathlum return to the Scion at the start of the next session through whatever twist of fate the Storyguide finds convenient.

Flaw: These projectiles are infamous for inflicting unique grievous wounds on their victims. Anyone who examines or treats these wounds, including surviving victims of the relic, receives 2 Enhancement to track its user down by mundane or supernatural means.

Bell of Coyholxauhqui (•••)

Mythic

When Huitzilopochtli slew his sister Coyholxauhqui, the bells in her hair flew from the carnage and scattered all over the world. These oblong, blue-green bells are easy to find, and not just within the lands of the former Aztec Empire: one was recently unearthed in Antarctica. The bells are much louder than their small size implies. The sound is deep and sad, as if the bell itself is in mourning.

In the hands of an ordinary person, it’s a trinket. Some families keep one as an heirloom or a souvenir. When a Scion rings it, the sound takes a more oppressive tone. Coyholxuahqui’s rage pours through the sound, demanding those within earshot prepare for the destruction she will bring when her army’s ready. Only the strongest wills can withstand it.

  • Purview: Moon, War
  • Motif: Enemies scatter at the sound of my arrival.
  • Enhancement: 3 towards Close Combat or Firearms attacks against anyone drawn out by the bell.

Knack (Imbue 1 Legend):  When you ring the bell, anyone in Close range that is either hidden or in cover is compelled to leave their hiding places and flee within your sight. This may be used on characters 2 or more Tiers higher than you with a Clash of Wills.

And there’s many more than these in the book along with Creatures, Covenants, Creeds, Cults, Guides, Realms, and Sancta! What would you like to see next? Let us know below!

CURRENTLY ON KICKSTARTER

CURSEBORNE is now live on Kickstarter, but ending in 9 days!

Curseborne is a game about being unapologetic monsters in a world where being monstrous is the least of your worries. In Curseborne, you play as Accursed, descendants of monstrous lineages lurking in a modern world that closely resembles our own. You rebel against the ancient feuds between these entwined families, as well as against the web of curses that bind you, while fending off inhuman antagonists seeking to claim — or reclaim — your power.

The world of Curseborne is full of intrigue, magic, and things that go bump in the night. It’s just like our world, except the reason that things don’t go your way or that bad things happen is that the people are literally living in a world of curses. Some people are cursed more than others, and these are our Accursed characters. They have a particularly large curse that hangs over their heads and makes them more prone to bad things happening to them and around them. The nature of this curse also makes them magical in nature. They have a sense of the thing holding them back, and they can manipulate it in ways that normal people cannot.

This book is comprised of two main parts. The first part is the setting of Curseborne, as well as more about the Accursed themselves through the view of the characters. It shows how they see themselves, their world, and their place in that world. Lineages represent five broad categories of Accursed: The Dead (ghosts and spirits), The Hungry (vampires), The Outcasts (angels and demons), The Primal (shapeshifters and werewolves), and The Sorcerers (magicians).

The second part of the book are the instructions on how to use this book to play a game. You’ll find the chapters on how to play the game using the Storypath Ultra system, how to create a character, all the cool powers those characters have, and information on how to run a game of Curseborne.

With 9 days left in the campaign, we've passed 500% of our initial funding target and unlocked several Stretch Goals - including three new supplements that will be added as bonus rewards for backers of this project!

PREVIEW MATERIAL: You can find information from the numerous previews Onyx Path has shared.

Curseborne Actual Play Sessions, including:

DRAFT MANUSCRIPT: Over the course of the campaign, backers will receive access to chapters from the current draft manuscript of Curseborne. By the end of the campaign, backers will be able to read the entire book as it stands now, before any pledges are processed or payments collected. No secret curses with this campaign - you'll know exactly what you're supporting with your pledge. Read the manuscript and make sure the project is right for you.

CURRENTLY FUNDING

In 2017 Onyx Path unveiled the Storypath System, the rules engine that has come to power many of our games: the sci-fi universe of hope, heroism, and peril known as the Trinity Continuum, the modern-day stories of old gods and titans called Scion Second Edition, and the trope-focused exploration of genres that is the They Came From! series, and more.

We're extremely proud of what we’ve done over the years with Storypath, but felt it was time to tighten up the rules, smooth off the rough edges, and get rid of anything that got in the way of telling amazing stories. As a result, we’ve created the Storypath Ultra Core Manual.

Storypath Ultra isn’t a new edition, nor is it a replacement rule set — many of the concepts we developed and refined from the Storypath System are still there, even as they rearrange or rename things to make them as clear as possible. Think of it as a new take on Storypath: It’s the same great game but spruced up and tweaked to be the best possible version.

Currently Crowdfunding! We're almost in the final week! Join now and you can vote on an example game that will be included in the final version!

August '24 Update - Gifts of the Titans preview
3 months ago – Tue, Aug 20, 2024 at 03:22:16 AM

Hello Titans,

No big news this month just yet, but I do have a preview for you from one of our supplements!

Gifts of the Titans is one of our Titans Rising stretch goals, so it's high time we showed off some of what this upcoming book contains! Let’s take a look at some Titan Birthrights from this upcoming sourcebook, specifically the creatures detailed in this chapter. Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Creatures

Some Scions, especially Titanic ones, discover that Fate binds them to infamous monsters or outright titanspawn. Despite the contemptible deeds some of the following creatures are known for, even these beings wish to protect or aid their patrons — as long as the Scion gives them the respect they deserve. More information on Creatures is found in Scion: Hero, p. 201 and Scion: Demigod, p. 131.

Creatures labeled as “Legendary” are only brought into the lives of characters at Demigod Tier or above.

Aitu/Qaitu (••••)

Some unfortunate souls never make it into Miru’s net. Others are killed so violently they never have a chance to make the arduous journey to the Atua’s afterlife. Left to fend for themselves in the World, these souls wander the planets shores as qaitu.

Left to their own devices, these ghosts fall into rage and despair, becoming demons that plague the people they once lived among. As a Birthright, these ghosts avoid that fate by pledging themselves into the Scion’s service. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship; the Scion has an incorporeal set of eyes and ears, and the qaitu has a purpose to keep them on the right path. The ghost could be a faithful follower of the Scion’s progenitor denied rest, or an ancestor dedicated to protecting the Scion.

  • Qualities: Incorporeality
  • Flairs: Dread Gaze, Possession
  • Drive: Protect Loved Ones, Seek Vengeance
  • Primary Pool (6): Spying, Scaring
  • Secondary Pool (4): Communicating
  • Desperation Pool: 2
  • Health: 4
  • Defense: 2
  • Initiative: 8

Ahuizotl (•••)

Legendary

The ahuizotl is a small and fuzzy creature that lives in deep bodies of water. Its black-furred body has hands like a racoon and a prehensile tail with a human hand at its end. It has served as both the guardian of the fish within lakes and the personal hit-creature of several Teōtl Gods and Titans. It prefers to hunt its prey at the lake’s edge, mimicking the wail of a baby’s cry to catch victims’ attention. When the prey checks on the noise, the ahuizotl snatches them, consumes their eyes, nails and teeth, and mauls the rest. It's said the ahuizotl’s victims are guaranteed to see paradise, a cold comfort for the people left behind to mourn them.

As a Birthright, the ahuizotl is often bequeathed to Scions with direct connection to the water due to their occupations, interests, or affinity for the Water Purview. It has a curious nature and a genuine desire to protect the weak, especially weak aquatic beings, but violence comes as naturally to it as breathing. It’ll assure the Scion’s protection, but that might come at the cost of dealing with the mutilated bodies of its victims.

  • Qualities: Malleable Skin
  • Flairs: Long Arm
  • Drive: Set Up Ambushes, Protect Defenseless Creatures
  • Primary Pool (8): Swimming, Vocal Mimicry
  • Secondary Pool (6): Grappling
  • Desperation Pool: 4
  • Health: 4
  • Defense: 2
  • Initiative: 6

Condor Herald (•••)

Since the creation of the World, condors served as messengers between the Hanan Pach and the Kay Pacha. While most messages condors deliver are either written or capable of being communicated through gesture and movement, some stories claim condors can relay a spoken message once, then return to their bird cries.

As a Birthright, the Scion gains service of one of the Apu’s condor heralds. The condor serves as the Scion’s personal messenger, for when information is just too sensitive to be sent through phones that could be wiretapped and networks that might be compromised. The condor might be a form of two-way communication between a Scion and their Apu progenitor, though relaying messages from the earth to the sky is very time consuming. If the Scion expects an answer, the trip could take even longer.

  • Qualities: Natural Weapons
  • Flairs: Here I Come
  • Drive: Send Messages, Escape Danger
  • Primary Pool (5): Communicating, Flying
  • Secondary Pool (3): Diving
  • Desperation Pool: 1
  • Health: 3
  • Defense: 2
  • Initiative: 6

Dalaketnon (•••••)

The dalaketnon are spirits that live on balete trees, but they’d prefer you not refer to them as spirits. They’re more interested in being seen as human; they spend much of their time in human guises dressed in the finest clothing they can imagine. They love humanity and its creations so much that given the chance they’ll enchant humans into staying with them forever. Elders warn their children: never get lost in the forests and never eat anything the dalaketnon offer, especially not the black rice they grow.

As a Birthright, a dalaketnon might end up in the service of a Scion due to a reversal of fortune, such as trying to capture a devotee of a Balahala Titan and being forced to serve their progeny as penance. They might also enter a Scion’s service willingly. Scions give dalaketnon regular, convenient access to humans, and it’s not guaranteed that one will ask them to tone down their mischief or even stop them from enchanting people.

There’s never just one daleketnon around, and one loyal to a Scion can easily call on their siblings for aid. However, those allies aren’t anywhere near as trustworthy. If your dalaketnon calls for backup, keep a close eye on your human friends when the fight’s over.

  • Qualities: Group Tactics
  • Flairs: I Have Friends, Hypnotic Charm
  • Drive: Fit In Among Mortals, Flaunt Beauty
  • Primary Pool (9): Lying, Reading Emotions
  • Secondary Pool (7): Detecting Occult Activities
  • Desperation Pool: 5
  • Health: 5
  • Defense: 3
  • Initiative: 10

And there’s many more than these four in the book itself (over ten, in fact) along with Covenants, Creeds, Cults, Guides, Realms, Sancta, and a wide number of Relics! What would you like to see next? Let us know below!

July 2024 Update
4 months ago – Tue, Jul 16, 2024 at 03:31:48 AM

Hello Titans,

It feels like it's been a pretty fast few weeks, but it's already time for our regular monthly update! Before I get to our project round up, I wanted to share two cool bits of Scion info with you today!

ONYX PATH CON PANELS

First up, as noted back in our May update, Onyx Path recently held their annual Virtual Gaming Convention about a month ago and I've got some cool Scion panels to share with you! If you've been looking for information on what's up with Scion and what projects are in the pipeline or more information about the game, these panels are for you!

First up, a big group panel where members of the Scion gang (pantheon?) discuss Scion with a focus on the tiers of play!

And then we get a look at what's ahead for Scion, with a big focus on the upcoming Scion: Mythic Shards book!

SCION: MYTHIC SHARDS

And that panel is how I segue into our big news of the day! The latest book for Scion Second Edition, Mythic Shards, will launch it's crowdfunding campaign later today!

The World never truly ends, it merely shatters. Each fragment giving birth to new possibilities, new futures within whole new realities as they fall. Every time the World is saved, it continues on in one reality while other possibilities propel forward into another tomorrow. When we sleep, our souls travel to other worlds and realms. Our imaginations touch the shards and run rampant. They are not merely dreams. These Mythic Shards are as real as the Divine Realms, and the realm we live in. All myths are true.

Scion: Mythic Shards presents alternate realities for the World of Scion and provides new rules for players and Storyguides to incorporate into their games. Each chapter explores a single shard of reality at varying tiers of Scion gameplay. These chapters are standalone from each other and don’t need to be consumed with the other chapters in order to start playing. Mythic Shards requires the use of Origin, Hero, Demigod, and God in order to play.

Scion’s setting — the World — is an exciting place where heroes are larger than life, and Fate always lurks in the shadows, pulling strings. It is a place of urban fantasy where the legends and myths of our ancestors live in a world that’s much like our own.

But, there are some tales that belong to another world — stories that need another place to breathe and come alive — places like…

  • After the End: A post apocalyptic desert full of peril and opportunities for new beginnings
  • Cyber-Scion: A cyberpunk dystopia where Scions pilot mecha to fight corporate kaiju
  • Farewell to Heroes: Gritty noir cities where Scions are illegal
  • Four Color: A place of superheroes, alter-egos, and over-the-top excitement
  • Space Odyssey: An entire galaxy of starships and aliens

LAUNCHING TODAY! Sign up to get notified when this project goes LIVE!
